Zeke Zarchy

Rubin " Zeke " Zarchy ( born June 12, 1915 in New York City; † April 12, 2009 in Irvine ( California)) was an American jazz trumpeter of the swing. He is best known as a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra ( Army Air Force Orchestra ).

Zarchy played from the mid- 1930s in leading swing bands, first with barely 20 years with Joe Haymes (1935 ), and in the Benny Goodman ( 1936), Bob Crosby ( 1937-1939 ), Artie Shaw ( 1936/37, ), Tommy Dorsey (1939 ) and finally Glenn Miller. He first played in 1940 at Miller, was from 1940 to 1942 in the NBC Orchestra in New York and then from 1943 in Miller's Army Air Force Band as a master sergeant. He led practically Miller the band and was also the last member of the band, which Miller said in December 1944 before his tragic flight. He remained in the 1940s in the band Ghost of Miller and toured with her ​​around the world. Beginning of the 1950s, he settled in Los Angeles as a studio musician down. He accompanied singers such as Frank Sinatra and can be heard on the soundtrack of major Hollywood titles such as Dr. Zhivago, West Side Story and The Glenn Miller Story. He also played with his idol Louis Armstrong. Zarchy was in the house band of different TV shows from Columbia Broadcasting System as the Danny Kaye and the NBC Orchestra.

He played until the 1980 annual Jazz in the Great Pacific Jazz Band. In later years he undertook many tours around the world (very common in Japan) and taught trumpet player. He took along with others, Goodman, Shaw, Miller, Dorsey, Bob Crosby, Mildred Bailey and Red Norvo.
