Zemships
The project Zemships ( Zero Emission Ships, dt zero-emission ships) pursues the goal of developing a hydrogen-powered passenger ship.
The selected ship is a new building for the Alster in Hamburg shipping and carries the name " shandy ". Here, an electric motor with the energy of a fuel cell system is fed. The keel-laying ceremony took place at the shipyard SSB special Oortkaten held on 4 December 2007, the handover to the operator ATG Alster Touristik GmbH - a subsidiary of the Hamburg High Bahn AG - took place on 29 August 2008 by Anja Hajduk ( Senator for Urban Development and Environment ) in the presence of the Federal Minister of Transport Wolfgang Tiefensee.
On 28 April 2010, there was a fire during a test drive in the battery compartment, which caused some damage. A risk of explosion by the hydrogen did not exist. Since 10 May 2011, the Alsterwasser is back in action.
Refueling
The hydrogen filling station is equipped with a 17,000 -liter liquid hydrogen tank. The refueling of the ship is done by compressed hydrogen at 350 bar.
