Zerba

Zerba ( Emilia: Serba ) is an Italian commune in the province of Piacenza. The church today has 84 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Zerba situated at an altitude of about 906 meters above sea level in the western part of the Emilia -Romagna on the south side of the mountain Lesima (1724 meters). This makes it the highest municipality in the province of Piacenza. Genoa as the nearest large town and the coast of the Mediterranean Sea about 75 kilometers south-west of Zerba.

Population

The population is Emilia. The Demonym is Sèrbesi (Italian Zerbesi ) and their community the locals call Serba. Zerba is threatened with extinction because over 60% of residents over 60 and only about 20% are under the age of 20 years. The municipality had 15 times the population still about 150 years ago.
