Żerkowice, Opole Voivodeship

Zirkowitz, Polish Żerkowice, is a village in Poland in the community Comprachtschütz. It belongs to the powiat Opolski in the Opole Voivodeship in Upper Silesia.

Geography

Zirkowitz is located three kilometers northeast of the municipal center Comprachtschütz and seven kilometers west of the county town of Opole and voivodship.

History

The place was first mentioned around 1274.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 123 voters voted to remain in Germany and 65 for Poland. Zirkowitz remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 387 inhabitants in the village. On August 10, 1936, the place was in Erlental O.S. renamed. 1939, the place had 378 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district of Opole.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration and renamed Żerkowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place to re-founded powiat Opolski. On 4 June 2009 the Zirkowitz was in the community Comprachtschütz, belongs, introduced German as a second official language on 1 December 2009 was the place in addition to the official German names Zirkowitz.
