Zeynep Ahunbay

Zeynep Ahunbay ( born June 20, 1946 in Ünye, Ordu, Turkey Province) is a Turkish architectural historian.

Biography

Ahunbay was born in Ünye, a small town in the Black Sea region of Turkey. She received her PhD in architectural history in 1976 at the Technical University of Istanbul, where she was appointed in 1988 as Professor of architectural history. She has published numerous books on the restoration and conservation of cultural heritage. Ahunbays most famous works are the restoration of Zeyrek Mosque with art historians Metin Ahunbay and Robert Ousterhout and the restoration of the city walls of Istanbul.

She is currently working on a project for the conservation of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and the restoration of the ancient city of Hasankeyf.
