Zêzere River

The Zêzere is an approximately 200 km long right tributary of the Tagus River in central Portugal.

Course

It rises in about 1900 m altitude in the Serra da Estrela, below the summit CANTARO Magro ( near Manteigas ). On its 200 km long road to the south, it passes several spur of the Iberian vagina mountains and forested areas, fed three reservoirs, and happened several, mostly smaller towns, including the famous village mandrel. In Constância he finally flows into the Tagus.

Importance

The Zêzere is after the Mondego in Portugal 's second largest springing river. He is with its three reservoirs Barragem de Castelo de Bode, Barragem do Cabril Barragem because Bouçã both for electricity and for water supply is important. In particular, the 1951 completed Straudamm Barragem de Castelo de Bode, extending from its dam at Martinchel several kilometers upstream, provides a portion of the demand for electricity and water to the capital Lisbon.
