Zhang Jie (writer)

Zhang Jie (Chinese张 诘/张洁, Pinyin Zhang Jie, * April 27, 1937 in Beijing, Republic of China) is a Chinese writer.

Life

Zhang grew up as an orphan, the daughter of an elementary school teacher without a father. She graduated in 1960 to study economics at the People's University in Beijing and worked in mechanical engineering. My first book, " The Music of the Woods" (1978 ) won her the Chinese National Prize for short stories. In 1979 she received for her work " Who has more of life" the State Literary Award and was a member of the Chinese Writers Association. In 1980, she joined the Communist Party of China. Since 1982 she has been working freelance.

Her book " Heavy wings" in 1985 awarded the Mao Dun Prize, 1982 was the first work of Zhang, which appeared in German translation. Her work " The conditions are not right" was in 1984 with the literary prize of the magazine Beijing wenxue excellent ( German translation in the magazine Merian, edition 3/ 39, 1986). In 1985 she was a participant in the West- Berlin festival Horizonte Festival of World Cultures ( No. 3, 1985). In 1987 she received a scholarship for a 6-month stay in Vienna writing. Then she traveled extensively in Europe. Her book " Two love stories " (1987) was awarded the Malaparte Prize for Literature. 2006 was Zhang Jie as the first author for a second time the Mao Dun Prize, for her work " without words ".
