Zhang Lichang

Zhang lichang (Chinese张立昌, Pinyin by Mr Zhang Lichang; * June 1939 in Nanpi, Hubei Province, Republic of China, † 10 January 2008 in Tianjin, People's Republic of China) was a Chinese Communist politician, former party chairman of Tianjin and a member of the Politburo.

Political career and rise to Mayor of Tianjin

After studying at a University of Applied Sciences for Economics in Beijing in February 1966, he joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP ). He then became increasingly important positions in the party, the administration and the economy in the important port city of Tianjin.

Even before he began his professional and political career in a factory for seamless tubes in Tianjin as department heads and deputy secretary of the Youth League ( 1960-1966 ). After that, he was deputy director until 1972 and finally 1972 to 1980 Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the factory.

Between 1980 and 1983 he was made in Tianjin as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and deputy director of the Office of cottage industry of the city. From 1983 to 1985 he was Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the Economic Commission of the city.

From 1985 to 1993 he was Deputy Mayor of Tianjin, as well as additional secretary of the Work Committee for Industry of the Municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the Commission on the urban customs offices (1985 to 1988). Between 1989 and 1993 he was also Deputy Secretary of the 5th City Party Committee. Between January 1987 and January 1989, he completed a correspondence course at the University of Economics of Beijing.

Since 1993 he was mayor of Tianjin, as well as secretary of the party group of city government. In addition, he was first Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee 6. In August 1997, he was finally Secretary of the Party Committee 6.

Ascent to the party chief of Tianjin and national offices

Zhang was in May 1998, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin City. At the same time he took over the chairmanship of the Permanent People's Congress of the city.

In 1982 he became a candidate of the 12th Central Committee (CC ) of the CCP. Since the 14th National Congress of the CCP (1992 ) he was a member of the Central Committee as a member. Since the 16th National Congress of the CCP in 2002, he was a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee and thus belonged to the extended leadership circle of the Chinese party leadership. In addition, he had since 1993 Member of the National People's Congress.

In March 2007, however, he was replaced prior to taking place in the fall of 2007, the 17th Congress of the CPC by Zhang Gaoli as secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin by a decision of the Central Committee. This was also his successor as a member of the Politburo.

Zhang died on 10 January 2008 in Tianjin.
