ZIL-112 Sports

The ZIS -112 was a futuristic coupe manufacturer ZIL with an idiosyncratic, aerodynamic body, reminiscent of the Studebaker Commander (1950) and the Buick Le Sabre concept car ( 1951). A first prototype was developed in 1951.

The sports car was powered by an eight- cylinder in-line engine developing 140 hp from a displacement of 6.0 liters. The engine came from the ZIS -110, however, was too weak for the 2450 kg heavy vehicle. 1952 a more powerful eight-cylinder engine with 6.0 liter displacement also was developed, which made 182 hp. The top speed was 204 km / h Due to the greater weight of the engine driveability was very unstable. 1954 both the chassis and the body has been cut by 600 mm, thus saving around 500 kg. The engine was again revised and then made 192 hp, top speed was 210 km / h, so that was the ZIS -112 the fastest Soviet car of its time. In the same year a convertible version of the ZIS -112 was presented.

The ZIS- 112 was used successfully by Boris Kurbatov at various national races. This sports car was only used for propaganda purposes and was only produced in small numbers.
