Zilant

The Silant (Russian Зилант from Tatar yılan / елан "snake", Tatar name Ajdaha - yılan "Dragon Snake " to Persian اژدها azhdahā "Dragon "), even ( according to the English transliteration of the Russian name) Zilant, is a winged serpent with the front part of a dragon is a mythical creature that is part of the Tatar and Russian folklore. He is mentioned in legends about the founding of the Tatar capital Kazan, since 1730 is their official symbol and is shown in the flag and the coat of arms of the city. As such, he is also a special type of representation of the dragon as an emblem similar to the Wyvern. From the Basilisk, it differs in spite of its bird-like attitude by the head, which is a dragon and not a bird's head, and in his mythology that has no reference to a bird shape.

As an emblem of the Millennium of Kazan the lettering قازان was elected Qazan ( in the historical Tatar alphabet Iske imla ) in the form of a Silants in 2005.
