Zimapán Dam

The Zimapán Dam ( Spanish " Presa Fernando Hiriart " or " Central Hidroeléctrica de Zimapán " ) is located on the Rio Moctezuma in Mexico in the states of Hidalgo and Querétaro 30 km southwest of Zimapán. The dam was named after the engineer Fernando Hiriart Balderrama. Designed the new dam by Giovanni Lombardi.

In the reservoir also flow into the Rio San Juan and the Rio Tula; they unite in the Rio Moctezuma.

The hydropower plant has two Pelton turbines each with 146 MW capacity. With them may be generated annually an amount of energy of 1292.4 GWh. The first generating unit went into operation in September 1995. Operator is the electricity company " Comision Federal d' Electricidade ".

The shut-off is up to 207 m high arch dam in a narrow valley; other details are talking about 203 m altitude.
