Zimmertheater Tübingen

The Tübingen theater room located on the picturesque Neckar front only a few meters from the Hölderlin Tower in Tübingen Bursagasse.

In 1958 it hosted the independent theater group Thespis a fixed stage. After the theater initially existed as a registered association, it was transformed in the 1970s into a GmbH. Main shareholder is the city of Tübingen.

History

The room theater was recorded for the first time on December 6, 1958, John Osborne's Look Back in Anger. Nationwide attention was the dancer and artistic director Salvatore Poddine from the year 1967, when also the designer Frieder Grindler designed the theater posters. Transitional headed after him George Tabori room theater, on May 2, 1972 staged just the premiere of his " clown " here. In these years, the cellar at the Bursagasse was extended to a second stage space, so since then either in the " room" on the Neckar can be played with 60 spectators or in the " vault " with 80 seats. After Tabori initiated sequentially Helfrid Foron (until 1979 ), Siegfried Bühr, Hartmut Wickert, Thomas Bockelmann ( 1988-1993 ) and Crescentia Dünßer, this together with Otto Kukla, the small theater, which until 1998 had his own ensemble. They were followed in 1996 as a director and each as directors of the company Klaus Metzger and 2002 Vera storm.

In 2007, the current director Axel Krauße and Christian Schäfer started under the playing time motto " to work" again with a fixed ( mini) ensemble. 2009 caused the poor ticket sales of the summer theater production of the theater room an urgent financial support from the city of Tübingen, in order to avert insolvency. On 3 March 2012, the theater room Tübingen was awarded the Culture Prize of the Community Foundation of Tübingen, which is endowed with 10,000 euros.

The room boasts a theater in a long list of guest engagements of known theater people, and these refer in their vita like on their activities in the vicinity of Hölderlin's Tower.

The room theater was also invited to other cities, it has appeared in the season 1977/78 with Dario Fo farce " The thief, who did not come to harm" in various European cities.
