Žinkovy

The patch Žinkovy ( German Schinkau, also Zinkau ) is located six kilometers west of Nepomuk in Okres Plzeň -jih, Czech Republic and has 899 inhabitants (as of 2006). The land area is 2,046 hectares.

Geography

The village lies at 530 m above sea level. M. is in the valley of Úslava that, even Žinkovský at a place called in the lake Labut ' fishpond, jammed. Through the village leads the state road 191 from Nepomuk to Klatovy, North leads the state road 230 from Nepomuk to Prestice over.

Neighboring towns are Březí and Kokorov in the north, Nepomuk in the east, Nová Ves in the southeast, and Vojovice Čepinec in the south, as well as Osobovy and Radkovice in the West.

History

1176 the village was first mentioned in written sources, although archaeological finds show that the area now Žinkovy was already settled about 2000 BC. 1252-1259 was the construction of the castle Potštejn whose ruins are preserved.

In the 13th century Žinkovy received the rights of a market town. 1559 began the construction of the castle Žinkovy. The village owes its former economic boom primarily the proceeds of the local brewery, fish farming and trade of cattle and grain. 1684 large parts of the village including the church were destroyed by a major fire. The Žinkovy castle was spared from it.

On 10 October 2006 Žinkovy was raised to the spots.

The remarkable sculptures in the church created L. Widmann.
