Zion I

Zion I (pronounced "Zion Eye" ) is the name of a hip hop duo from Oakland, California. There is (also Zion, born as Steve Gaines ) and the producer and DJ Amp Live ( born as Anthony Anderson ) from the MC Zumbi.

Career

Zumbi and Amp Live first met in 1991 at a college in Atlanta and founded with two other rappers the group Metafour. After the group already briefly the label Tommy Boy Records belonged, Zion and Amp Live came under as a duo in 1997 on an independent label, which a year later their first single "Inner Light" published, which gave them in the underground a certain reputation.

2000, they released their debut album Mind Over Matter, which has drum -and- bass influences and was nominated by The Source magazine as Independent Album of the Year. Likewise, in 2003 the successor Deepwater Slang V2.0, the sounds also very futuristic. The two years later released album True & Livin ' on the other hand sounds through the use of various instruments of organic and versatile. In addition, Talib Kweli, Gift of Gab, Aesop Rock and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, and the civil rights act with Fred Hampton Jr.. Was released in 2006 exclusively in Japan Break a Dawn. In the same year published together with Zion I The Grouch of the Living Legends album Heroes in the City of Dope. As with all previous releases, it got mostly positive reviews.

Before their debut album released by Zion I also some EPs and since then repeatedly mixtapes. Even solo albums have been released Zumbi and Amp Live. Published in 2008 Amp Live on the Internet exclusively from the existing samples of Radiohead's album In Rainbows work Rainydayz Remixes, on which about Too Short and Del are heard.

On January 23, 2009 their sixth album The Takeover in Germany.
