Zoë Wanamaker
Zoë Wanamaker, CBE ( born May 13, 1949 in New York, NY ) is an American-born British actress. She lives and works in the UK.
Life
Zoë Wanamaker is the daughter of the Jewish actor and director Sam Wanamaker, who emigrated with his wife Charlotte Holland to the UK after he had been put on a blacklist during the McCarthy era. Her father was the initiator for the reconstruction of the Globe Theatre in London.
At the age of three years, Zoë Wanamaker and her family moved to London. Zoë Wanamaker has two sisters, one of whom had no desire to become an actress. After school, she made various configurations, including a secretary, because her parents were against her desire to go to the theater business. Nevertheless, she applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and was accepted.
She was admitted to the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1981 and was awarded for her role in the Broadway production Piaf beside Jane Lapotaire a Tony Award. Especially close Wanamaker is working with the Royal National Theatre, where she served as Serafina in Tennessee Williams The Rose Tattoo was seen in the spring of 2007, and beside Simon Russell Beale in Much Ado About Nothing stood on the stage.
In 1990, she worked as Emilia in Trevor Nunn's film version of Othello with Ian McKellen as Iago with; their real breakthrough came in the early 1990s with the TV series Love Hurts. Wanamaker worked on numerous film projects; Since 2000 she played opposite Robert Lindsay in a starring role in the television series My Family.
In England has long been known as one of the most important actresses of her generation, she is known in Germany especially for her role as "Madam Hooch " in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. In the crime series Agatha Christie's Poirot, she performed alongside David Suchet as a crime writer " Ariadne Oliver " from 2007.
Since 1994, Wanamaker is married to the British actor Gawn Granger, with whom she lives in London.
In 2000 she was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
