Zoetrope (band)

Zoetrope (English: zoetrope ) was an American thrash metal band from Chicago, Illinois was founded in 1976 and disbanded in 1993.

History

The band was formed in 1976 by ​​drummer and vocalist Barry Stern (drums / vocals ), guitarist Kevin Michael Rasofsky, bassist Calvin " Willis " Humphrey and guitarist Ken Black founded. Together, the band initially played only cover versions, but soon developed their own songs, so in 1980 the first single was released. Although Zoetrope was a metal band, it was also very active in Chicago's hardcore punk scene. Thus, the various performances played in O'Banions, a punk bar in Chicago. Ken Black and Barry Stern also produced the self-titled album by the hardcore punk band Life Sentence in 1986. According to the release of the single some demos were released, so that the band reached a deal with Combat Records. The album Amnesty appeared in 1985. In 1987 the band went to Los Angeles to take the second album A Life of Crime with producer Randy Burns ( Megadeth, Nuclear Assault ). During the recording of Ken Black left the band in order to combat its drug problems. He was replaced by Louis Svitek. Although Svitek was seen on the album cover, all recordings are still of Black. During the tour A Life of Crime Svitek left the band and joined MOD with. After the tour, also appeared at Barry Stern of the band Trouble. The album Mind Over Splatter was released in 1993 alongside Rasofsky with a new cast, before the band exist even in the same year.

Louis Svitek later played in bands such as Lost Cause, Ministry, Mind Funk, Pigface, The Hollow steps and Project 44 Currently he runs the label Wu Li Records, a hip-hop label based in Chicago. Barry Stern was the drummer on a tour of Cathedral and made a guest appearance on the self-titled debut album of Debris Inc., also on the e- xMitglieder of Saint Vitus and Trouble were heard. Barry died on 1 April 2005 due to complications following hip surgery. Until his death he was active in the band D -Connect. Trouble dedicated to him the album Simple Mind Condition from the year 2007.

Style
