Zultepec

Zultepec ( Calpulalpan ) until the 16th century was a city in the Aztec Empire. It lay to the east of Texcoco, near the former border to Tlaxcala and was inhabited by about 5,000 people, who grew corn and beans, they also produced pulque. After the Spanish conquest by the conquistador Hernán Cortés, the city was abandoned and is now an archaeological site.

In pre-Hispanic times Zultepec belonged to the sphere of Texcoco. Later, there were as Tecuaque ( " place where they have eaten it " ) known. Archaeologists have found since the year 1990, the human bones from previously approximately 400 people from the entourage of Pánfilo de Narváez.
