Atara (Arabic: عطارة ) is a village in the West Bank about ten kilometers north of the city of Ramallah. It has about 2,300 inhabitants (2007). Atara is located at 810 meters above sea level.

Neighboring towns

Two kilometers south of Atara is the town of Bir Zait, two kilometers north of the town emerging Rawabi.

History

Atara was first mentioned in 1596 with 55 Muslim households in the Ottoman tax registers documented as taxpayers, taxes, among other things paid to wheat, olives, grapes, fruit trees and beehives. In 1922, the Jewish National Fund here a moshav. She became known as Ataroth, one of the first Zionist settlements in Palestine.
