Pure 1-methylnaphthalene is a colorless, fluorescent blue liquid with aromatic odor. It occurs in coal tar. The ignition temperature is 485 ° C.
Use
1-methylnaphthalene is used in combination with n- hexadecane as reference substance for determining the ignition quality ( cetane number ) of diesel fuels. Furthermore, it is used as a dyeing auxiliary, solvent, dielectric and heat transfer oil.
