1- tetradecanol (or myristyl alcohol ) is a long chain monohydric alcohol selected from the group consisting of fatty alcohols. It is a white, waxy solid with fettsäureartigem odor.

Production and representation

1- tetradecanol, can be obtained by reduction of myristic acid or a number of fatty acid esters with reagents such as lithium aluminum hydride or sodium.

Use

1- tetradecanol is used as an additive in cosmetics, and as a feedstock for the production of fatty alcohol sulfates, salts and esters (eg Myristyllactate, Myristylmyristate, myristic ).

Proof

1- tetradecanol can be detected by gas chromatographic methods.
