The event

In 1963 the first 3- hour race was conducted, which was one of the World Sportscar Championship. Since 1965, the distance is 1000 km, as in the 1000 km Nürburgring 1000 km race at Spa- Francorchamps. Since 1997, the classic 1000 km was added to the program several times. Since 2004, the event is now firmly in the Le Mans Series program. The originally planned for September 24, 2006 Monza race had to be canceled for the season start since the course through a citizens' initiative a noise restriction was imposed.
