1080i

1080i is a video resolution of standard TV High Definition Television. " 1080 " stands for the vertical resolution, "I" for interlaced ( interlaced ).

Resolution

1080i signals are typically transmitted in 50 or 60 fields per second, each with 1920 × 540, can be scaled very well with straight divider on only one axis of the typical display resolution of 1920 × 1080 ( 16:9 aspect ratio). Based on still images 1080i solves with 2,073,600 pixels five times as high as in the PAL format with 414,720 pixels.

Less common is the resolution of 1440 × 1080, which is mapped in spite of the ratio 4:3 by non- square pixels as a picture in 16:9 aspect ratio. Known Stations that use this resolution, for example, Sport 1 HD, N24 HD, Nickelodeon HD and Comedy Central HD on the platform Astra HD . Anixe HD is even broadcast on Astra 1M with a resolution of 1280 × 1080.

Dissemination

The resolution of 1080i50 is mainly on television for use. A 1080p24 signal ( 24 frames ) is common only in feature film production and the resulting pre-recorded Blu -ray discs, but has the same data rate. The majority of international HDTV channels and all HD offshoot of the German private stations in the format 1080i50. Following a recommendation of the European Broadcasting Union, however, send some of its members (including all German public broadcasters ) in 720p format.
