The gadoleic or 11Z - eicosenoic is a monounsaturated fatty acid (20:1), which consists of a linear chain of 20 carbon atoms with one cis double bond. The double bond is seen from the omega end of the ninth carbon atom, which is why it belongs to the omega-9 fatty acids and is designated by the name lipid 20:1 ( ω -9).
Occurrence
The gadoleic acid is a natural fatty acid, and as a component of the corresponding triglycerides in various vegetable oils before, however usually only in small amounts. A particularly high proportion of the fatty acid contains camelina ( Camelina sativa), where it constitutes about 15% to 20 % of the fatty acids. Jojoba oil in about 70 % of the fatty acids gadoleic acid, which is in the form of wax esters.
