111 Eighth Avenue is an office building in Manhattan, New York City, New York, which is one of the largest office buildings in the city of about 269,000 m² of floor space. The building covers an entire block between Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue and West 15th Street and West 16th Street in Chelsea Manhattan.

History

The property served as a Union Inland Terminal # 1, as a cargo center and warehouse. The new building of 111 Eighth Avenue, was designed by Lusby Simpson by the architectural firm Abbott, Merkt & Co.. His first use after its completion in 1932 was carried out by the commercial departments of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and was the seat of the head office of the Authority, to these activities were moved into the new buildings erected by the Authority on the World Trade Center.

For several years, 111 Eighth Avenue serves as a carrier hotel, where different users their technical equipment, servers and storage attitudes have placed and are there connected with a variety of telecommunications and other network companies in the same building. A major user is the company Google, which purchased the building in 2010 for 1.8 billion U.S. dollars.
