1,1,2 -trichloro -1 ,2,2 -trifluoroethane ( TCTFE ) is an organic compound from the group of CFCs ( VOC ), which occurs in the form of a colorless liquid.

Properties

1,1,2 -trichloro -1 ,2,2 -trifluoroethane is a colorless, sweet-smelling liquid that is sparingly soluble in water. The vapors of 1,1,2 -trichloro -1 ,2,2 -trifluoroethane are much heavier ( 6.47 times heavier ) than air.

Use

Previously found 1,1,2 -trichloro -1 ,2,2 -trifluoroethane as a refrigerant and in the 1960s as a cleaning agent ( care symbol circled F) for delicate fabrics use. Since the prohibition of CFCs as refrigerants, it is only used in the laboratory for the analysis of mineral oils or sugars. In gas chromatography with flame ionization detector of silylated for improved volatility compounds, it is added as an additive to prevent the formation of silica in the detector.

Safety

As CFCs, it is damaging to the ozone layer which has a high global warming potential. In case of contact with flames The substance decomposes, with toxic chlorine and fluorine compounds such as phosgene or hydrogen fluoride, may arise.
