1,1,2 -trichloroethane is an organic compound from the group of organochlorine compounds and aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbons. It is isomeric with 1,1,1- trichloroethane.

Production and representation

Can be represented by 1,1,2-trichloroethane of 1,2- dichloroethane Weiterchlorierung.

Properties

1,1,2 -trichloroethane is a sweet- smelling liquid that is poorly soluble in water. Their vapors are much heavier ( 4.61 times as heavy) than air.

Use

1,1,2-trichloroethane is used mainly as an intermediate in the production of other organo-chlorine compounds such as vinylidene chloride ( by elimination of HCl ) before. As the solvent, there is only limited application to the solution of chlorinated rubber.

Safety

1,1,2 -trichloroethane is very toxic to the heart, liver and kidney. The use of 1,1,2 -trichloroethane in products outside of chemical plants or in products, from which a release is possible, is prohibited.
