1,1,2,2- tetrachloroethane is a chemical compound from the group of volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons ( CHC ). It is isomeric to 1,1,1,2- tetrachloroethane.
Production and representation
Tetrachloroethane can be obtained with chlorine (via dichloroethene ) by two-step addition reaction of acetylene.
Use
1,1,2,2- tetrachloroethane was used in the past under the designation R130 as refrigerant, and often as a solvent, but now only as a starting material for the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons such as vinyl chloride, trichlorethylene and perchlorethylene to closed production systems.
Safety
1,1,2,2- tetrachloroethane very toxic and also via the skin ( contact poison ) was added. Acute irritates the skin and mucous membranes and connection leads to CNS disorders. Chronic exposure leads to liver damage, as well as disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and the nervous system. Furthermore, the fabric is also rumored to have a genotoxicity.
