Roman Empire
- Qintus Aquilius Niger and Marcus Rebilus Apronianus are consuls in the Roman Empire.
- Under Trajan, the Roman Empire has achieved the largest expansion in its history. On the way back from a campaign against the Parthians to Rome he dies, however, on August 8 at Selinus. The allegedly adopted by him on his deathbed Hadrian succeeded him as emperor on the throne. But there are signs soon that Rome is not able to hold the newly conquered territories. Hadrian are most of the conquered territories of Trajan in the east again: The new emperor will be limited to the security of the status quo, thereby ending the expansive foreign policy for centuries of the Roman Empire.
