Politics and World Affairs
- MARCH 8: German struggle for the throne: Philip of Swabia is elected Roman - German king.
- JULY 12: The Welf Otto IV of Brunswick is crowned in Aachen Roman-German king - in the right place, but with the wrong insignia ( to 1218 ).
- July: With a 5- year truce between King Amalric II of Jerusalem and the Ayyubid Sultan Al - Adil I. the crusade of Henry VI ends.
- September 8: The Hohenstaufen Philip of Swabia is crowned king of Germany in Mainz - the wrong place, but with the real crown jewels ( to 1208; murdered ). At his court Walther von der Vogelweide holds on.
- September 28: In the Battle of Gisors defeat outnumbered knights to the English King Richard the Lionheart led by the French king Philip II army of knights.
- The not yet four years of Frederick II is crowned King of Sicily and is the end of November after the death of his mother Constance orphan; the following 14 years, he grows up on the streets of Palermo.

Religion
- February 22: Count Lothario di Segni is when Pope Innocent III. enthroned. In August, he calls ( no specific reason ) on a Fourth Crusade. He also imposed in the same year the interdict Philip II of France.
- The Holy Ghost Order (founded in 1170/75 ) is recognized by the pope (see links).
- The German Order (formed in 1190 ) is converted to a religious order of knights and recognized by the pope in 1199.
- The Trinitarian order is founded.
