11th Dalai Lama

Khedrub Gyatsho ( born 1 November 1838 in Kangding in Sichuan today, † January 31, 1856 ) was the eleventh Dalai Lama.

Life

Khedrub Gyatsho died at a young age and as a result of the former conflict between Tibet and the Empire of China, there are no records of his life. Since three candidates as the incarnation of the Tenth Dalai Lama came into question, Khedrub Gyatso was determined using donated by Emperor Qian Long Golden Urn by lot. 1846 took the 11th Dalai Lama before the 7th Panchen Lama his monastic vows in the Jokhang in Lhasa. In 1852 he visited the monasteries of Sera, Drepung, Ganden, Chökhorgyel at Lhamo Lhatsho ( a holy lake in Tibet, Tibetan: lha mo bla mtsho ) and Samye, there to hold discourses and hand out alms. In March 1855 he took over the temporal power in Tibet, which he held less than a year since he died already on 31 January 1856.
