11th U-boat Flotilla

The 11th Unterseebootsflottille, short 11 U- Flotilla, was a military unit of the former German Navy in World War II.

History

The flotilla was formed on 15 May 1942 in Bergen under the command of Commander Hans Cohausz. The application area was mainly the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. The boats of the flotilla attacked especially the North Sea convoys, which were on their way from Britain and the United States to the northern Soviet ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.

The flotilla consisted until September 1944 largely from boats of the type VII in the 11th U- Flotilla also the first boat of the type came XXI, U 2511, are used.

Many flotillas affiliated before its dissolution one their boats in the 11th U- Flotilla. This meant that these had to be reorganized in September 1944. The 11th Unterseebootsflottille one of the few flotillas which existed until 1945. The history of this flotilla finally ended with the surrender of Germany in May 1945.
