12th Chess Olympiad
The 12th Chess Olympiad was held to 25 September 1956 in Moscow ( Soviet Union) on 31 August.

It was attended by 34 teams, identified in four opening acts, the teams for the final groups A to C. 197 players took part in the competition, including 20 grandmasters and 35 international masters. Both the opening acts as well as the final groups A to C were discharged as a round robin tournaments. The first three teams each opening act qualified for the Final Group A
It was played in the Central Theater of the Red Army. As referee acted Igor Bondarevsky from the Soviet Union and Ari Ilmakunnas from Finland. The cooling-off period was two and a half hours for 40 moves, then one hour for each 16 moves. The rankings were determined based on the board points (BP) and Team Points (MP).
