(1362) Griqua

( 1362 ) Griqua is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 31 July 1935 in Johannesburg by South African astronomer Cyril V. Jackson.

The orbit of the asteroid around the sun is in a 2:1 resonance with the orbit of Jupiter. This resonance zone is called Hecuba gap. There are there only a few asteroids. It is believed that the orbit of ( 1362 ) Griqua for only about 100 to 500 million years stable. As erstentdeckter and probably the largest asteroid with these characteristics, it is named after the Griqua family to which asteroids such as ( 3688 ) Navajo ( 4177 ) Kohman, ( 11665 ) Dirichlet and ( 13963 ) include Euphrates.

( 1362 ) Griqua was named after the tribe of the Griqua in Griqualand, South Africa.
