14th G7 summit

The G7 Summit in Toronto 1988, the 14th Conference of the G7 Group, which took place between 19 and 21 June 1988 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Participants in the unofficial forum of the seven richest industrial nations hosted Canada represented by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, France by François Mitterrand, Federal Republic of Germany, represented by Helmut Kohl, Italy represented by Ciriaco De Mita, Japan represented by Noboru Takeshita, the United Kingdom represented by Margaret Thatcher and the United States represented by Ronald Reagan.

The Summit should demonstrate the differences between its members and provide mutual support for difficult economic decisions. The summit suggested some relaxations of the repayment terms for developing countries, the so-called Toronto - term. These were further developed at the summit in 1994 in Naples.
