15 Penn Plaza

15 Penn Plaza (also Vornado Tower ) is a planned office building at Penn Plaza in New York City. For the planning of the skyscraper, the architect César Pelli is responsible. The construction of the building is postponed indefinitely.

Description

2009, the public was introduced to the project for the first time. It looked right to build in place of the hotel Pennsylvania a 365 meter high office building. In summer 2010, the targeted amount was corrected to 370.6 meters; so that the building would be only ten feet less than the Empire State Building and the tallest buildings in New York City. On the lower five floors of shops and restaurants should be located, about 122,000 square feet on offices, also 430 apartments are provided. Completion was scheduled for 2015.

In July 2010, the official permission to build was granted. This, however, was controversial because wanted to prevent the owner of the Empire State Building that 15 Penn Plaza is built. They pointed out that the new building would change its size, the Manhattan skyline too. The application for planning permission has been approved yet in the New York City Council with passable majority.

The project was established in December 2011 by the owner Vornado Realty Trust on ice, as expected due to the poor economic climate rental income could not seem profitable to build the skyscraper. Instead, it was planned to renovate the Hotel Pennsylvania.

On February 5, 2013 it was announced that Vornado intends to separate from the project indefinitely and thus prefers a renovation of the hotel.
