( 15282 ) Franz Marc is one of the major outer asteroid belt, which was discovered by the German astronomer frankness Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel on 13 September 1991 at the Tautenburg Observatory (IAU code 033) in the Thuringian Forest Tautenburger. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid it had previously passed already on 24 and 25 October 1981 the provisional designation 1981 UC24 at Palomar Mountain Observatory in California.

Mean distance from the sun ( semimajor axis), eccentricity and inclination of the orbital plane of the asteroid roughly correspond to the Eos family, a group of asteroids, which typically have semi-major axes from 2.95 to 3.1 AE, bounded on the inside of the Kirkwood gap of 7: 3 resonance with Jupiter, and orbital inclinations between 8 ° and 12 °. The group is named after the asteroid (221 ) Eos. It is believed that the family was created over one billion years ago by a collision. After FORMING classification (Small Main -Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey) were assumed in ( 15282 ) Franz Marc of a dark surface with a spectroscopic investigation of Gianluca Masi, Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel, it might be so, roughly speaking, to act a C- asteroids. If this is confirmed, the Bahngleicheit with the Eos - group would be more random, since Eos asteroids are brighter and belong to the spectroscopic class S and K.

( 15282 ) Franz Marc was appointed on 13 October 2000 at the suggestion of sincerity Börngen by the German painter, draftsman and graphic artist Franz Marc, who is considered one of the most important painters of expressionism in Germany.
