(15760) 1992 QB1 was the first trans-Neptunian object that was found after Pluto and Charon. It was discovered on August 30, 1992 by David C. Jewitt and Jane Luu at the Mauna Kea Observatory in Hawaii. That same year, it was classified as Cubewano, as an object of Kuiper Belt. The term Cubewano derives from " QB one" from.

The discoverers suggested as a name for the object "Smiley ", the 1613 Smiley, however, was already awarded for the asteroid. 1992 QB1 was given the number 15760 and remained unnamed; he is usually referred to simply as " QB1 ".
