(15789) 1993 SC is a Plutino, an asteroid the Kuiper Belt, which is in a 3:2 orbital resonance with the planet Neptune. He was discovered with the aid of a 2.5 -meter reflecting telescope on 17 September 1993 by Iwan P. Williams, Alan Fitzsimmons and Donal O'Ceallaigh at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the Canary island of La Palma. 1993 SC was one of the first known trans-Neptunian objects. The diameter of (15789) 1993 SC is estimated at about 300 kilometers. The asteroid shows a reddish spectrum whose absorption bands have strong evidence for the presence of methane ice, as is analogous also suspected in Pluto.
