( 163 693 ) Atira is the erstentdeckte asteroid whose orbit lies entirely inside Earth's orbit. Together with 2004 JG6 who has an even closer orbit, and eleven other asteroids it forms one designated as Apohele asteroids subgroup of Aten asteroids.

This is the first asteroid from the Apohele group who has received an official name. Atira is after the Pawnee mythology, the goddess of the earth and of the Evening Star.
