( 16498 ) Passau ( in 1990 SX8 ) is an asteroid that was discovered by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst from the La Silla Observatory. The asteroid is named after the Bavarian Passau.

The US-based Minor Planet Center (MPC ), which is responsible for the confirmation of a space body as a " small planet " and for the naming, officially confirmed the entry and the name in October 2006.
