  • The Gazzetta di Mantova, a daily newspaper for the city and the province of Mantua is founded. The newspaper is one of the oldest existing newspapers in the world.
  • Magdeburgische newspaper was owned by the Faber family until 1939. She appeared continuously from 1664 to 1944, when she and the Nazi newspaper "The middle German - New Magdeburg Tageblatt" was merged.

Scientific works, essays

  • Fourteen years after his death René Descartes first comprehensive work is published (The World ) under the title Le Monde. The Bobin with Michel and Nicolas Legras printed in Paris book contains under the general title Le Monde Descartes essays Traité de l' homme and Traité de la lumière ou le monde. Descartes had already completed the work in 1633 in large part, when he learned of the condemnation of Galileo for his advocacy of the heliocentric system. Then he had renounced a publication. The text, which is not completely preserved, comes from the estate.
