( 17412 ) Kroll is one of the main asteroid belt, by the German astronomer Werner Landgraf at La Silla Observatory (IAU code 809 ) of the ( ESO) in Chile was discovered May 24, 1988 European Southern Observatory.

Was named the asteroid after the German astrophysicist Reinhold Kroll (1955-2010), who worked out at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC ) essential foundations for the understanding of CP stars and significantly to the establishment of the Gregory - Coude GCT solar telescope at the Observatorio del Teide contributed to Tenerife.
