( 17770 ) Baume is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 1 March 1998 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code 809).
The asteroid was named after the French chemist Antoine Baume (1728-1804) named his invention of a Skalenaräometers with the eponymous Baume scale made it possible to determine the densities of sulfuric acid or electroplating baths.
