(1829 ) Dawson is one of the main asteroid belt, which on May 6, 1967 by Argentine astronomer Carlos Cesco Ulrrico and his U.S. colleague Arnold R. Klemola at El Leoncito Observatory ( IAU code 808) of the Felix Aguilar Observatory in Argentina was detected.

The asteroid was named after the Argentine astronomer Bernhard Hildebrandt Dawson (1890-1960), which until 1955 a professor at the University of San Juan held from 1948 to 1958 the first President of the Asociación Argentina de Astronomía was.
