( 18542 ) Broglio is one of the main asteroid belt, which from the Italian astronomer Augusto Testa and Francesco Manca Osservatorio Astronomico on Sormano (IAU code 587 ) was discovered in Sormano on 29 December 1996.

The asteroid was named after the Italian aerospace engineer and dean of the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University La Sapienza in Rome, Luigi Broglio (1911-2001), who in the 1960s in collaboration with NASA on " San Marco project " worked. The project was the construction of Italian satellite and a rocket launch site on a platform ( San Marco platform) off the coast of Kenya to content.
