(188 ) Menippe is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt, which was discovered on June 18, 1878 by Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters. It was named after celestial bodies Menippe, one of the Nereids called daughters of the sea god Nereus of Greek mythology.

Menippe moves between 2.3 ( perihelion ) astronomical units to 3.3 astronomical units ( aphelion ) in 4.6 years of the sun. The orbit is inclined 11.7 ° to the ecliptic, the orbital eccentricity is 0.18.

Menippe has a diameter of 39 km. It has a bright silicate-containing surface with an albedo of 0.24. In about 12 hours it rotates around its own axis.
