The fifth Wimbledon Championships were in 1881 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club instead. William Renshaw defeated in the Challenge Round last year's winner John Hartley. He should win the tournament until 1889 six more times.

In addition to a powerful serve led William and his twin brother Ernest Renshaw Smash ( called at the time Smash Renshaw ) as a new blow.

Men's Singles

William Renshaw won the tournament, where he defeated the defending champion John Hartley in the shortest Wimbledon final of all time in only 37 minutes with 6:0, 6:1 and 6:1. Hartley was weakened by a diarrheal disease.
