The sixth edition of the Wimbledon Championships 1882 was held on the former grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road. Last year's winner William Renshaw won his second title. There were next to the defending champion at only 28 participants.

Prior to the tournament, a new rule change was announced in May 1882 by representatives of the All England Club and the Marlyebone Cricket Club. After that, the net height has been lowered to the post on 3 feet 6 inches ( 1.07 m), making it acquired its original height. A surcharge could be much easier longline played back, which it was hoped that a reduction of the benefit of the server shall.

Men's Singles

Ernest Renshaw won the All- Comers final against Richard Taswell Richardson. In the Challenge Round, his brother William Renshaw was able to assert and defend his title.
