The 14th Wimbledon Championships were in 1890 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road instead. In the men's 30 participants competed, while the smallest starting field in the history of the tournament of Wimbledon was recorded in the women with only four players.

The rules were amended so that now the players changed sides when the sum of games played in the sentence is odd. Until then, the pages were changed after every sentence, or at the express request of a player or the referee after each game.

With Willoughby Hamilton and Lena Rice in singles, and Joshua Pim and Frank Stoker in a double, all titles went to Irish -born players.

Men's Singles

In the Challenge Round Willoughby Hamilton defeated the defending champion William Renshaw in five sets. Renshaw resigned after his defeat no longer in Wimbledon.

Women's Singles

Last year's winner Blanche Bingley did not occur due to a pregnancy. The finals contest the previous year finalist Lena Rice and Jack May, the Rice 6:4 and 6:1 could decide for themselves.

Men's doubles

Joshua Pim and Frank Stoker suggested in the doubles final Ernest Lewis and George Whiteside Hillyard 6:0, 7:5 and 6:4.
