18th Dye

18th Dye was a German - Danish noise rock band.

History

The band was at the beginning of the 1990s by Sebastian Büttrich (D), Piet Bendtsen (DK) and Heike Rädeker ( DK / D ) in Berlin. After a few gigs the trio of Yo La Tengo was discovered and transferred to the U.S. independent label Matador Records. In the U.S. and UK, they should finally a larger fan base than win in their home.

The debut album Done appeared in 1992. Was succeeded by a comprehensive six tracks EP called Crayon, which was produced by Iain Burgess. After a move to Cloudland Records was released in 1995 the album Tribute To A Bus. As producer Steve Albini acted, the previously produced albums by The Breeders, PJ Harvey, Big Black, Pixies and Nirvana. The latter, in addition to Sonic Youth and Velvet Underground to name as an important influence. Follow Rugged and thoughtful melodic passages - often surprising - each other. 18th Dye played in the interlude of Yo La Tengo, Stereolab and The Notwist. In 1993, the band played on the Danish Roskilde Festival. 1994, 1995 and 1999, they invited John Peel in his famous Peel Sessions broadcast one. After farewell performances in Berlin, London and Copenhagen in 1999, they announced their resolution.

Sebastian Büttrich and Piet Bendtsen founded the bands Kikkert and test. The bassist Heike Rädeker played at Evonike and Wuhling. The solo projects, however, were of short duration and the band members withdrew temporarily from the music business.

In summer 2005 they reunited. During their performances in Sweden, Denmark and Germany 18th Dye introduced some new titles. For further appearances in spring 2006, a new publication was promised. End of March 2008 appeared the album Amorine Queen, whose archaic, anachronistic style was praised, given the long break from the criticism. On 29 January 2010 they gave the known separation on the grounds " that they no longer are capable of as a band to compose, create and act together."
